Time Travelling Slim Style

Updated: 5 hours ago

I am currently working on a travel video, one which is sure to confuse many of my faithful viewers. It involves mostly two time periods: from 1804 to1806, and from 2018 to 2019. You may notice I look a little younger!

In December 2019 I started editing a video that I had been shooting for several months, which involved travelling over 2500 miles (4000 kms) with the intent on doing a story that linked modern boondocking to the early explorers. Unfortunately I ran into many problems. First, I just couldn't get the story to work. I had over 3 hours of footage, but I just couldn't get past the first 5 minutes without cringing. There were serious sound issues, I mispronounced several important words, and I did not get the feedback I'd hoped for from important sources. I was also concerned about a backlash, as there were some parts of it that certain viewers may not be thrilled with. I finally just gave up, chopped up some of the non-controversial footage to smaller videos and shelved the rest.

For years it bothered me, and I even added more material in 2020 and 2024 to hopefully make the story more complete. But it wasn't until just a few weeks ago I started looking into it again. Since I am currently grounded, with no intention of long distance travel until at least the spring, I have decided to give it another go. I am currently sifting through over 2500 files to see if I can finally release something I can live with. So far it's going well. I expect it won't be my best, but it may at least give you a little insight was to where I was heading in that pre-covid period when camping and travel were so much easier than today. And yes, you may even find an old camper or two that many loved to see! I can't guarantee when or if I will finish it, but I at least promise an update. Wish me luck! SP
